Sophie Huang is 34 years old and lives in Hsinchu City.

In 1995 Sophie graduated from National Chung-Hsing University and obtained her first degree in chemistry.  She then went to the University of York, U.K. to complete her master degree in the field of Science Education.  Sophie originally planned to complete a Ph.D. there, however, due to her father’s illness, Sophie returned to Taiwan after the first year of Ph.D. in 1999.

After returning to Taiwan, Sophie worked as a sales engineer in the Science Park for seven months.  However, since Sophie is highly interested in education, she changed her job to work as an ESL teacher in language schools from year 2000.  Sophie has been an ESL teacher since then and she teaches English conversation, business writing and grammar.

Apart from working, Sophie is also pursuing her study in the area of theology and philosophy and she is planning to attend the Ph.D. entrance exam in Taiwan in 2008 in the field of religious studies.  She devotes her self to both teaching English as well as doing research on theology and philosophy.

During this visit to Canada, Sophie would like to meet ESL teachers who teach children/adults and learn teaching experiences and their thoughts on language teaching.  Sophie would also like to meet experts who studies Christian theology and learn more on this subject.  Furthermore, it would be a pleasure to visit the surroundings of Vancouver, to gather the flavour of Canadian culture and the nature.

Sophie’s hobbies are reading, sight seeing and socializing with friends.  She also loves cooking and sharing her cooking with her family and friends.
