Bob Blacker

Bob is sponsored by New Westminster - Royal City Rotary Club is married (Judy) and has four children. One of his children, Andrea now lives in Manly NSW.  Bob has been a Rotarian since 1997 and is Past President of Royal City Rotary.  Some of his memorable achievements in Rotary were receiving a Paul Harris Fellow award from his club in recognition of his community work. In addition receiving the position of Team Leader for the 2005 Centennial GSE Team has become the hi-light of his rotary experience.

Bob is an ex-pat and was born in Moruya, NSW.  At the age of 17yrs he joined the NSW Police Cadets and two years later was sworn in as a Constable.  He was then transferred to be one of the first 'beat officers' assigned to Kings Cross (this was 1968).  This life changing experience remained with Bob for the remainder of his Police Career.  In 1969 Bob met Judy and in 1971 he traveled with her to Vancouver, BC where they married. Bob joined the New Westminster Police Department (a suburb of Greater Vancouver) where he reached the rank of Inspector and retired in August 2000.  In 1998 Bob was named as an Aide de Campe to the Lt. Governor of British Columbia.  This was quite an honor as he was the first police officer in New Westminster to be named as an Aid de Campe.  Bob still performs those duties today and is the Aid de Campe to the Honorable Iona Campagnolo ( http://www.ltgov.bc.ca ) .  Bob now has a small business (Vancouversider Ent. http://www.vancouversider.com ) where he now looks after healthcare professionals from all around the world for major Health Authorities in British Columbia. Bob’s job is to make the life of the new healthcare professional (Nurse, Dr’s) less stressful when they arrive and along with meeting them at the airport he arranges for accommodation and assists with getting them settled down quickly.  Bob has assisted over 250 nurses, doctors from Australia, New Zealand, UK, Saudi Arabia and Germany.

Unfortunately when he left Australia Bob was an avid surfer and was a surf lifesaver in the Canberra Bateman’s Bay Surf Club (now known as the Bateman’s Bay Surf Club). One of his passions was rowing in surfboat carnivals.  That came to a sudden halt in Canada so Bob has reverted to golf & car racing.

Bob would like to meet those who are involved in the Tourism Industry, Healthcare recruiting as well as retired police officers or those who are Rotarians.   He would like the team to see the Great Barrier Reef, White Haven Beach, Fraser Island, Stockman & Qantas Museums & The Royal Flying Doctor Service.
