Team Orientation Day - North Vancouver

This was the first time that the team was able to meet each other.  We were also lucky to have one of our alternates Crystal attend the meeting as well.  The day was very busy with all of us being briefed by Esio, Neil and Bob.  District Governor Ron attended and presented all of us with our GSE pins plus added some words of encouragement and also spoke about what Rotary Foundation is and what it means to GSE.

First team planning session - Whistler BC

If we never bonded at our first meeting we definitely bonded in Whistler.    All of us except for Krisztina jumped in Bob's van and drove to Krisztina's two bedroom suite in Whistler.  The day was sunny and the view from her house was unbelievable. With much discussion we were able to pick out our uniforms and get most of all the little things planned and responsibilities assigned.  Krisztina served up a great bbq which we all enjoyed immensely.

Kim, Bob & GSE Chair Esio attended at the Burnaby Deer Lake Rotary Club.  The Deer Lake club sponsored Kim for GSE. One of the requirements for GSE is that the member visit their sponsoring club before the exchange.  Kim was well received by the members.  We were lucky that the guest speaker was from the 2004 GSE Team that went to New Zealand. Vern Biccum was the presenting member.  This was great exposure for Kim and Bob as it gave them both an idea of what was expected for presentations on the exchange tour.

Krisztina, Bob and Esio attended at the Squamish Rotary Club who sponsored Krisztina.  It was great to meet all the members of the club and to thank them for sponsoring Krisztina.  President Sherri was very welcoming and we found out that she had lived in the Longreach area for over 9 months and knew the area where we were going very well.  She also admitted to Bob that she had met Mr. "Bundy" and had many great times meeting him.   The Squamish club will be also hosting the exchange team coming from District 9570 and are already planning what they will be doing with the team.  Our aussie mates will be very pleased with this club.
